It is hard to believe that it has been 6 years since Spencer left us. We honor his memory every year with Hike for Spencer and we hope that you will join us again this year on August 6th.
Since its inception six years ago, The Hike for Spencer has raised just under $200,000 for the Spencer Nelson Memorial Fund-Winter Park Ski Education Foundation. The Spencer Nelson Fund was established to help Grand County youth who would otherwise not be unable to participate in the Winter Park Competition Center. In the past 5 years the Spencer Nelson Fund has helped over 140 Grand County athletes with over $195,000 in scholarship funds and funding to help athletes with thousands in travel costs as they attain the national level of competition in their sport.
All disciplines benefitted in 2015 year, with 36 athletes from each discipline receiving program grants; All Mountain (4), Alpine (11), Freestyle (6), Park and Pipe (5), Big Mountain (2) and Snowboard (8).
Our mission is to invest in the youth of our community by helping them become successful individuals through participation in winter sports that emphasize integrity, tenacity and sportsmanship. Every child in Grand County who has the desire to participate in winter sports should be given the opportunity.
